高専の時にお世話になった先生がお亡くなりになりました。
本当に学生みたいで、一番親しみが持てた先生でした。
心からご冥福をお祈りします。

日曜の朝、奈良に帰ります。
お通夜。夜通し棺を守って、灯明を守る儀式のこと。
故人を夜通し穢れから守ると言う意味があるそうな。
故人の立場になってみると、その方がきっと寂しくないよね。
お葬式。故人とお別れをして、最後まで弔う儀式全体のこと。
故人は何も言わないけど、
好きな人達に囲まれていればきっと亡くなってからも楽しく生きられる。
でもね、どっちの儀式だって
やっぱり残された人たちのための儀式であるとも思う。
夜通し起きて偲ぶための時間を得、
告別して泣くための時間を得、
式を通さなければ会えない、普段会わない人達との出会いを得る。
結婚式では、2人を中心とした周りの人全てに会うことはまずないけど
お葬式では、その人を中心とした周りの人全てに会うことになる。
それがこの儀式の持っている意味の強さなんだろうか。
故人が為す最後の仕事は、お葬式における、
生きている人同士の出会いの場の提供なのではないか。
きっと明日は大勢の人が来るだろう。
俺の同級生や、先輩、後輩、他の先生方。
先生が亡くなったことは本当に本当に悲しい。
でも久しく会っていない人たちに会えることは正直、嬉しい。
嬉しいとか言うと不謹慎に思われるかも知れないけど、
最大限、その場所に来たことの意味を感じ、
きっかけを得ることが出来たことへの感謝をすることが
最大の弔いになるのではないかと俺は思う。
今日はただ悲しいだけではなくて、ちゃんといいこともあった。
そうみんなが思っている方が、きっと先生も悲しくないよ。
だから明日は、少しは、笑顔も持っていく。
